Greater Manchester Police have launched a spoof hotel website to warn what awaits party-goers if they drink too much over the festive season.

Police officers ‘advertise’ the transport to the Drunken Disorderly Inn

At first glance it looks like a glossy website for one of the North West’s more prestigious inns.

But with wipe-clean mattresses and sturdy locks on all rooms as standard, a closer look reveals the force are using the site to warn off alcohol-fuelled bad behaviour.

The online brochure for the “Drunken Disorderly Inn” advertises the en-suite facilities on offer, along with the benefit of safe storage – or confiscation – of all major credit cards and belongings.

Other attractions listed include “lots of bars” available.

It also features tongue-in-cheek videos, photographs and details on what it is like to be arrested, booked into custody and spend a night in a prison cell.

Other sections cover how “guests” are transported in “blue-light limousines” – with prices for overnight stays starting at just an £80 fine.

Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan explained the thinking behind the parody.

“Although it is tongue-in-cheek it carries a serious message highlighting the cold, stark experience of being taken into custody and how it can damage your reputation, relationships and work prospects.

“For thousands of people in our county a few drinks out in the local bar or club are an integral part of celebrating Christmas and the New Year.

“The vast majority of people do this responsibly ensuring they and others have a good time and go home safe.

“Excessive drinking can however lead to a selfish binge-drinking minority getting involved in drunken violence and anti-social behaviour such as swearing, shouting and criminal damage.

“Please visit this website before you go out and share it with your friends. Enjoy yourself and stay safe this Christmas and remember it’s your night out and your choice. Don’t spend it with us.”

It comes after GMP tweeted details of every 999 call they received over a 24-hour period in October.
